US-based manufacturer of primary batteries Energizer is all set to launch its new child-resistant packaging for coin lithium batteries, which has been designed to reduce the occurrence of ingestions of batteries by children and the associated medical complications.

The new packaging is made from durable and flexible materials that deter children from getting into the package. The front of the package consists of easy to understand icons to let parents know to keep the batteries away from small children.

Information on detailed warning copy advising of the danger of ingesting coin cell batteries and how to get help if they are swallowed is also available on the packaging.

Energizer US Batteries director of marketing Stacey Harbour said the new child-resistant packaging can help prevent ingestion.

"The incidence and severity of button cell battery ingestion is on the rise and not only did we want to bring visibility to what is an invisible threat in many homes, but we made a commitment to work toward both technology and packaging solutions that can save lives," Harbour said.

Child-resistant packaging meets the strict Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regulations and has the potential to eliminate up to 11% of coin cell battery ingestions.
